Martin Currie China Fund opens to investors
Martin Currie, the active equity manager, has opened its China Fund to investors.
The Martin Currie China Fund is managed by James Chong who has 15 years’ investment experience.
The fund is a 40–60-stock, multi-cap portfolio of Martin Currie’s best investment ideas across China and Hong Kong.
Its benchmark is the MSCI Zhong Hua index and the fund’s annual management charge is 1.5 per cent for the retail A share class and one per cent for the institutional B share class. The initial charge is five per cent.
Chong says: “The fund is currently biased towards mid- and small-cap companies, as I tend to find better investment opportunities in these market segments: segments where, due to our nine analysts based in Shanghai, we have a clear knowledge advantage.
“I am very positive on technology, food and beverages and consumer sectors, and the portfolio reflects this. I am cautious on banks, real estate and telecommunications and the portfolio is currently underweight in these sectors.”
